Punk started as an attitude , an attitude of ” I don’t give a shit, I’m doing it my want” Granted it was just youth rebellion as had happened with most generations. Greasers of the 50’s, zoot suits, Hippies. Punk was punk before a reporter named it ” Punk”, before $65.00 bondage pants bought at the mall, before Emo, before the “Look” became the dress code. Basically lower class white Youth who figured out You don’t need the trappings of a materialistic society to have fun. The Sex pistols although not the originators of Punk but certainley the ones who brought it in the spot light at which point the attitude of punk changed and was lost forever. What followed was just that, followers, some posers and a whole crap load of fashion freaks. Sid Vicious let the need to sustain the attitude take him straight to the grave. He was what Punk was but let it take control and become all he was. He reached the point where living the myth ,the legend just became to over powering. Most if they ever had it lost the attitude of Punk. Being depressed was not old school Punk, Long live the attitude whatever You call it.
